Hey there everyone! Well, we're finally on to the next section. Thanks to me and my schedule these questions are coming to you a week later than we planned, so I apologize about that! This week we're reading pages 29-42 (the section entitled Berea). Feel free to post answers to these questions as well as other questions/thoughts you may have had during your reading!
1. What are some ways that you could do a Bible study with someone informally (but not too casually), like Pastor John suggested on page 34 (just some simple aspects that come to mind, not a full outline :)?
2. Paul has certainly had his share of adventures (and we've only covered two of his many experiences!). Was anyone else excited that the Bereans were eager to search out the truth of the gospel? :) Paul must have been so encouraged to see them examining the Word. How might you encourage a "religious inquirer" who is eager to hear what you say? Most of our (or my, at least) evangelistic preparation is spent on how to respond to those who aren't so responsive to our message. What do we do when they want more and more? How can we prepare for that?
3. Paul keeps entering these cities, then is rushed out within a few months. I've been tempted to think that this wasn't God's smartest move...why kick Paul out of there when he has baby Christians who need his guidance? I'd like to hear (or read) your thoughts on this. Why do you think God kept moving Paul so quickly?
4. Even with all of the antagonistic Jews after him, Paul still boldly preached without his companions by his side. Did anyone else catch this in that verse from Acts 18 on page 38? Paul left Berea without Silas and Timothy, and when they arrived he was already busy giving people the gospel! Paul didn't even wait for them! What does this say about Paul's character as a messenger of the gospel?
5. Finally, how can we be imitators of Paul in his experience with the Bereans? Pastor John gave some examples at the end of the section, but do you have any other ideas?
